The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Neurology, in partnership with Acute Care Alberta, invites applications for an Academic Movement Disorders Neurologist to be based at the University of Alberta (UA). Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty is internationally recognized among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is home to more than 38,000 students and over 15,000 faculty and staff.
The Division of Neurology comprises 60 neurologists in academic and community practice and 3 scientists. Internationally recognized research is conducted and published from UA. All subspecialties of neurology are represented among the faculty, including stroke, autoimmune and multiple sclerosis, cognitive neurology, epilepsy, movement disorders, neuromuscular and ALS, autonomic neurophysiology. We have 5 research chairs and hold multiple CIHR, NIH, PCORI, and other prestigious external grants. Our Neurology residency program accepts 8 residents/year, and we have comprehensive clinical and research fellowship programs. The academic division has close ties to the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute (NMHI), a discovery and translational research collaborative.
Qualifications:
– MD degree (or equivalent)
– Completed residency training in Adult Neurology
– Eligible for certification in Neurology with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada
– Completed a movement disorders fellowship program
– Demonstrated interest and productivity in Parkinson’s and/or movement disorders research
– Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta
– Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status
Assets:
– Master’s and/or PhD in basic science, clinical movement disorders, epidemiology, or related research
– Commitment to education of neurology residents and fellows
– Experience in Deep-Brain Stimulation and surgeries for movement disorders
Key Accountabilities:
– Outpatient and inpatient care for Parkinson’s disease and movement disorders across Alberta and Northwest Territories
– Academic contributions to divisional initiatives, meetings, and neuroscience rounds
– Lead and contribute to movement disorders research, obtain grants, and build research programs
– Participate in quality improvement, rounds, and journal clubs
– Education of medical students, residents, and fellows; supervise research activities; OSCE participation
The successful candidate will be eligible for a full-time academic appointment in the Department of Medicine, University of Alberta, and will report to the Divisional Director of Neurology and Edmonton Corridor Lead of Neurology for Acute Care Alberta. Appointment will be contingent tenured or tenure-track at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank, with comprehensive benefits. Remuneration is based on the Academic Alternative Relationship Plan (AMHSP) and commensurate with education and experience.
